Whether it’s on social media, Google, books, or blogs there is no shortage of fitness advice and fitness experts out there. Being someone who is fairly new to the fitness industry, it could be difficult to distinguish yourself from others and really stand out as an expert in your field. The average reader is already having a hard time deciding between the “fake news” and the real facts out there on the internet, so you want to be sure to not add to the smoke. Number one thing to remember: keep your “expert advice” based in fact and research, not based on opinion.
Here are three ways to becoming a trusted expert in the industry.
1. Find your voice
This is one of the most important factors to take into account when you are first trying to establish yourself as an expert in your field. The key factor is to be yourself, whether it is posting on social media, writing blogs, or speaking with potential and current clients. In the fitness industry, a lot of the time people will invest because they feel a connection with the person first and the services second. When you are just being you, it’s much easier to keep a consistent voice, and then attract the type of clients you can connect with and truly help.

2. Find your niche
Don’t try to do it all. Think about what you specialize in and what type of person can you help the most. Then, run with that in the majority of your content creation, service offerings, and overall voice. Becoming an expert in one specific area and attracting potential clients who are looking for help in that area is much easier than becoming an expert in all areas, especially in the initial stages of your business. Keep furthering your education and experience in your specific niche and you’ll continue to separate yourself as an expert in your niche.
3. Find your passion in sharing your knowledge
This is also very important in establishing yourself as an expert in the fitness industry because in order to become an “expert” you need to share your knowledge. Where? Through social media, video tutorials, blog posts, email newsletters, books, podcasts, and so much more. Creating content like this takes time, but if you are passionate about the topic you are creating content around, this work will be much easier. This is a great way to build an audience and further establish your expertise. Giving away enough free information to help people on their fitness journeys will help you build an audience, and once you have established an ever-growing audience, you will notice an ever-growing business as well.
If you are just starting out and trying to establish your expertise, be consistent and more importantly, patient. Keep sharing what you know even if you think no one is reading or viewing your content, it will always pay off in the long run.
